Engine/gas/oil smell

New to the forum. I have recently purchased a 1994 380 Santego. I am getting a pretty strong engine/gas/oil smell in the cabin. the fuel tanks are under the settees in the salon, but everything appears to be air tight, sending units fuel lines, vents everything. The smell is stronger in the cabin than it is in the bilge/ engine compartment ??? Any ideas?

We've had an on again / off again smell that, we believe, originates from oil in bilge water, but then gets trapped in the air conditioning vents. We couldn't find any other source of the oil/fuel odor. We found that spraying Febreze into the A/C air intakes eliminates all trapped odors instantly. Maybe that'll help.
