engine gets hot

after having water pump replaced made three or four trips and engine got hot replaced thermostat runs for fifteen minutes or so and get hot what know 81 15hp evinrude :confused:

remove the powerhead and the exhaust tuner to inspect the water tube rubber grommet. It can melt and restrict or block off the flow of water into the engine block.

evinrude 15hp 1981 replaced thermostat rechecked pump put hose tube to block not much air went in how much work remove power head to remove rubber grommet :( big joe

It doesn't take much to block the water passage(s). If you remove the head, you can inspect the passage and blow air or water through them. You can also take off the exhaust port cover and do the same. With the lower unit off, you can try to force air or water up through the head by way of the water tube (should do that as a first step before taking off head or exhaust covers and see if that clears the water passages -- sounds like you might have already done that). The object is to try to locate the blockage so you can clear it, or clear it just by the force of air or water.
