engine ground clearance

hi,,,finishing the boat i had to totally restore,um questions i have this time,,,i bought 1969 mercury 650 mercury 65 hp,,,,,i put it on the boat,,,, it looks really low to the ground,,,i think its a short shaft


does it match the boat where it should ???

and can i tilt it up higher,,, motor to ground clearance i see a lever but not sure what it is

any replys back are appreciated,,,everybody on here has helped me tremendously restoring this boat 006.jpg007.jpg,,,thank you very much

You mount the engine on the boat so the AV plate is flush to about 1-inch above the keel -- not how close to the ground it sits. Can't tell from the picture how high the engine is installed. If the engine doesn't have power tilt & trim, you definitely need a transom saver so you can tilt the motor up further. As it sits, you will drag it entering and leaving driveways or service station areas.
