Just got a 84 Wellcraft with a V8 in it looks like a Chevy but how can I tell if it is a 350 or 305?

Checking the block number(s) may help. Mine says 5.7 on the block just behind the port head. Is there a sticker on the valve cover with a model number, an AQ number.

My bad Its a 82 Wellcraft. I could not find any info on the block but I did find what looks like the last number on the label on the valve cover witch is a 8. Just got the thing started since it was given to me and it sounds good. I never owned a boat before and was wondering if you all think the 700+ hours on the hour meter on a boat this old is accurate and would that be a lot of time for a boat motor? Would like to give it a compression test to get a idea of how healthy the engine is. Any advice on that would be great.

Thanks
Chris

Ayuh,... Ya didn't look hard enough,.... Aft portside block flange at the flywheel cover is the castin' numbers,...

Do ya have a compression gauge,..??
Pull all the plugs, open the throttle, screw in yer tester, 'n crank it over a few seconds, then move on,....

hours on gauges really don't mean Squat,...
Boat motors are Killed,.... Rarely worn out,.....
