Re: Engine Identification

should be a metal tag riveted to the block, just above the starter(at the very back end)It's about 1 inch wide and 2 inches tall...<br /><br />It will have the Mercruiser serial number on it.

Re: Engine Identification

I went and looked I didn't see a tag riveted back by the starter. I looked pretty hard. It was rebuilt so maybe they removed it.

Re: Engine Identification

If the merc tag is missing, look next to the distributor for the stamped GM number (stamped into the block, not on a tag). They can be well hidden with crud, might need to degrease first.<br /><br />Aldo

Re: Engine Identification

and it may be that some one like me years ago, replaced it with a "horrors" truck/mail jeep block. seems the jeep place on 820 in Ft Worth would sell us rebuildable 153 motors for 50 bucks from mail jeeps. we replaced many freeze crack blocks with them.<br /> if its a 153 CID then that moptor was used in trucks, novas and mail jeeps till the 70's sometime. if its a 181/3.0 it was used as an industrial/pump motor as well.

Re: Engine Identification

According to my Seloc book it can be 140 or 120. The 3825103 numbers fit into both category's.

Re: Engine Identification

for a time the 153 was avalible in 110,120,130and 140 Hp. was used a long time I think the 153 came into production about 1958 and really never changed until it was replaced by the 181 in the 80's.
