In general my engine idles at approx. 600 rpms. After a day out on the water I've noticed that the idle rpms are higher when it's time to dock the boat. Significantly higher as to cause the drive to shift a little rough as a result. What might cause this change. All my linkage is in good shape and it consistanly acts the same. It's a carburated motor if that helps.

Throttle cable comes to mind but you don't give us much to go on.

Unfortunately there is not much to tell. It's a '97 mercruiser with a bravo I drive. The first thing I suspected was the throttle cable too but inspection shows everything to be snug and in good working order. Do these motors rely on any kind of vacuum pressure? It's a carburated engine if that helps at all. Like I said it pretty consistantly finds a higher idle by the end of the day. I wouldn't really have noticed other than it makes for some hard shifts pulling on my lift. I'm worried to damage my drive. I'll turn the boat off and come back to use it a week later and the slow/normal idle has returned.

Hi, set your idle mixture and double check your throttle cable adjustment. I'd bet it's one of those things.
