hello hello, got forwarded here by some fellow fishermen, hope someone can help, here's the dilemma...

i have an 81 johnson evinrude 35hp OB, recently i was heading back to the launch after a day out on the lake and the engine start vibrating terribly, which in turn vibrated the hell out of my boat, i lowered the throttle and continued back to the launch, the engine never cut out or died..just vibrated very bad..

the following week i took it out and again it vibrated but this time i lost all motion, the prop stopped turning...so this is where i am

my guess is that the leg is shot, the transmission is gone or i ran out of gear oil...

any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, thank you

scott

Re: engine leg? question

Hi Scott
Sounds like you need to do a little detective work. First check the propeller hub. It may have broken loose. Then drain the gear oil and look for metal chunks, and milky looking oil. Oil with water in it. If the oil looks ok, then it's probably just the prop hub.
