Hi,

which of the manuals that are offered in the mall is better for a newbie in boats (but with a lot of experience in repairing cars). Is the SELOC manual or the Clymer manual better ? Or is it worth it to buy both because each handles some topics different than the other one.

Thanks for the hlep

Gordon

Re: Engine manuals

Gordon, it's my experience that the best manual
you can get is the factory service manual for
your model. my seloc manual covers all inline 6
and v6 motors from 1969-1991, 90hp to 300hp.
that's a lot of models! gets confusing to me
sometimes.
good luck!
M.Y.

Re: Engine manuals

Hi, Gordon.

I agree with MellowYellow. Factory Manuals are the best.

I think Rick is asking about it being OMC (Johnson or Evinrude) because there are a ton of factory manuals for sale on Ebay right now.

Of course, maybe Rick has one to sell :)

Good luck.

Re: Engine manuals

Gorgon,

I do agree with mellowyellow and JB, nothing is better than the genuine repair manual from the manufacturer of your outboard. My self am a car Tech and last month I ordered a Seloc, well it is so confused to use that I returned it and bought the manufact. one which covers only my motor --
Lot lot better.

Mario ;)

Could not agree more...I bought the Seloc manual for MerCruiser's and in my opinion it is a confusing mess. Go with the factory manual.

Re: Engine manuals

Ditto on the factory manuals. Although some of the older abos(early intertec)manuals appear to be very close to factory manuals.

I include clymer in the same class as seloc...kinda sorta ok if you don't need much help. Intertec went down hill when clymer got involved.

Re: Engine manuals

Hi,

first thanks for the answers.
@ rick: it's a 1996 5.7L Mercruiser with an alpha 1 drive.
Some of you said that the factory manuals are best. I visited the mercruiser homepage but could not find a place to buy the manuals. Where can i buy a manual for my engine ?

Gordon

Re: Engine manuals

Anybody have any ideas for a Volvo Penta AQ 125? I have been told to get the factory manual instead of Seloc and Clymer.
