Re: Engine Manufacturer

Welcome to Iboats, Keith!

A 50hp Sea King ought to be a Chrysler (just formerly West Bend). Up until about '64 Montgomery Wards got their Sea King engines from Gale, A division of OMC. You're probably familiar with OMC's other brands Johnson and Evinrude. But Gale only sold them a 40hp (2 cylinder) and a 60hp (4 cylinder). After that, Chrysler supplied the engines. So you can be reasonably sure you've got a '64 or '65 Chrysler built 50hp (2 cylinder) engine there.

I don't know what's good in a Chrysler manual, hopefully others can comment on that. You might want to check out www.chryslercrew.com in the mean time though.

Thanks Paul,

8)You were correct the 50HP Sea King is the 55HP Chrysler. I was able to download the Service Manual and ordered a parts manual. No the fun begins. I am going to finish cutting out the floor today and looking at the transom. I know I need some stringers replaced/repaired but I want to see what kind of shape the transom is in. I'm sure you will be hearing more from me.

I'm glad to have been of service!
Check out the Boat Restoration forum. There's already tonnes of good information there about what you're getting into, and plenty of good advice for when you need it.
