engine misfires w/cover

Need help.. Engine runs great with engine cover off. As soon as I place the cover the engine begins to misfire, if I attempt to close handles I get shocked. Can not find any exposed wires all connections seem to be ok. Any suggestions?

spark plug wires is arching to the hood latch. probably need to replace wires. what motor. hp and year.

I agree with tashasdaddy, the plug wires are grounding out to the hood.

I'll bet it's a crossflow V4... Only motor I've seen that does it on anything approaching a regular basis...

thanks for the response. its a 83' 50 hp. will adjust spark plug wires

bottom wire arching to cowl clamp.
