What kind of boat are they going on? Doesn't look like it would create to much drag sitting behind the stearn. I think it would be great on a center console, otherwise you would have to sit and fish from a side chair in order to steer.

I always thought they seemed like a fantastic idea.

Re: Engine mounted electric motors

I just recently installed the 160lb EM on my 175 Mercruiser.
20' sea ray. Boat weighs loaded about 3,000lbs.

Motor installed quite easy on the cavitation plate, you need to drill 6 holes.
Bought these to troll and provide a secondary motor. A bit disappointed it only moves the boat 3.25 mph max, but will keep that speed for hours even in 2' Lake Erie Waves.

During take,it does splash like hell until you plane out and trim the motor. However, it did not seem to affect plane.

Don't go by what the manufactures says for length either, go by what your boat will weigh. I oversized, and figured it JUST made it.

Works great for docking.

Now trying to figure out on-board battery charging using a 24 volt system combined with my 12V starter battery

BEFORE YOU BUY - MAKE SURE IT WILL FIT ON YOUR MOTOR

hope that helps

I purchased the riptide 55em and it should be here next week. I will post a report on the install and how weel she works after I get it all put together..
The goos news is I got my exhaust manifold back from the welder and machine shop today, so I may actually have two running motors by next week. Yippee.
