I have a 28' Floteboat and have put a Chrysler 105 motor on it, at low speed motor get plenty of water but when we pick up speed we do not get enough water. What is the "v" shaped thing on the bottom of the transom for, what does it do. Could this be removed or should I lower the motor on the transom? 100_0589.jpg100_0589.jpg

How low is the motor on the pod now? Do you trim it out when running WOT?

I have about 3" I could lower the motor if I cut some of the wood mount off. This is an old toon that has been reworked so I don't know if the mount is the correct height.

When I get go faster the motor quits spitting water.

IMHO, if the motor is running high enough for the water inlet to be out of the water, it would almost certainly be ventilating. I would change the water pump impeller and inspect the housing.

It is not running out of the water but I am not sure what ventilating is or how to fix it. I will repost with measurements of how deep the inlet is.

You will not be able to accurately measure the water inlet at high speeds. If you are sure the water inlet is underwater at high speeds then you must have a water pumpl, hose, or thermostat problem. Ventilating occurs when the prop is near enough to the surface to suck air into the prop.

If you look at the pic I put in this post the water inlet in 6 1/2 " below the "V" shaped piece and if I run a straight edge on the angle of the "V" it goes right thru the water inlet. That is why I think I need to lower the motor.

Re: Engine not getting water at higher speed

You may need to lower the motor but your original post stated that you have no water at high speeds. So where the water inlet sits when the boat is not in motion is irrelevant. The important thing is the water flow around the inlet at the speed you say the motor quits peeing.

I don't know what the 'V' is but I doubt seriously if that is contributing to your problem.

As I stated above, I think you would be experiencing ventilation problems if the water inlet is above the water surface at the speed in question.

I don't know much about pontoons but I'm pretty sure the " V " is the thing at the bottom of the pic he posted. I would think at higher speeds it could be causing the water to flow away from the intakes. I just don't know if cutting it off would fix the problem or push the water out more.
