Hi all,
I have a 1987 35hp 2 cylinder Merc outboard. The last time I took the boat out the engine would not get up to full power. I'd reach about two thirds and it would feel like it would be trying to get up to full but would instantly cut back, it felt like the second cylinder would be kicking in and out. The strange thing is though that I'm nearly positve that both cylinders were firing. We had a problem a year ago where only one cylinder would fire and I can tell the difference in power between one and both firing. Both are definitely firing I'm just not getting full power. We replaced the switch box last summer which was causing the inital problem but now I'm not sure where to start in fixing this new problem.
Before I try anything I was wondering if I could get suggestions as to what to try. Spark plugs? Compression? Electrical components? Fuel filter? Unfortunately I have hardly any tools to check things like compression so I'm hoping this is an easy fix.
Thanks guys,
Jay
