So Iv'e started tearing down the 175 OMC in my boat and there's so much rust that it looks like I need to replace the starter, carb, manifolds and rebuild the motor and outdrive. Would I be better off looking for a good used motor and outdrive (upgrading) and just going that way?

Sorry to say...

You may be better off looking for a whole nother boat.
Thats a LOT of time & $$$ into an obsolete motor.

Time for a repower. Depending on the hull type and condition you may consider a new boat or a conversion to outboard( many benefits) or replace with a volvo or mercruiser. Antiquated power plants are a waste to rebuild and is like throwing good money after bad.

Ayuh,... If the Hull is Worth it,... To You....

The gratification is worth the toil to do a complete Refit....;)

The Money it costs will probably Never be recovered though....

Okay guys. I guess I'm gonna have to do some think'n on this and see where it takes me. Maybe I should just get the bigger boat that I've wanted for a long time. Who knows? Thanx for all the input though I appreciate your opinions.
