1987, 5.7L, mercruiser, engine will over heat on idle, new 140 thermostat, two new risers (old ones bad condition), start engine let idle temp will rise beond 160 to 180, rev. engine temp will drop back and back to idle temp will rise again.
Right riser front not cold to touch but gets hot. Left riser gets too hot to touch. Other engine goes to 140 and holds, right side front riser stays cold, left riser hot but can hold hand on it. Now need the ideas of what could cause this condition, had the impeller changed last year but like anything could have gone bad.

Must be a blockage in the system somewhere.

See if it has an oil cooler inline on the hose leading up to the thermostat housing . . . those like to clog up.
