I have a 2002 Glastron bowrider with a 3.0 Volvo Penta I/O. I recently had the boat in the shop for a bad impeller and cracked exhaust manifold ( due to over-heating from impeller). I took it out on the lake and road it for about 2 hours at about 15-20 MPH. I finally opened it up to max speed and it over-heated. I shut it down for about 30 min. and started it back up. The temp. droppped from 200 to about 170. When I asked the mechanic at the shop why it was over-heating, he said that the head gasket could be bad. No water in the oil though. He also told me that since i didn't run the boat in cold water, that he removed the thermostat. Could it be a sensor gone bad from the over-heating with the bad impeller. I also found a wire off at the carb. Any thoughts.

Re: Engine overheating

Casmoboy, My first thought wolld be the possibility of broken pieces of the old impeller may have found their way farther into the system and removing the thermostat may keep you from overheating but it is not the remedy. The mechanic should back flush the system make sure all passages are clear and install the proper thermostat. Just my $0.02 Good Luck

find a diffent mechanic. you have a jackleg snakeoil tech. if he cannot repair the engine so it runs correctly as designed you are wasting your money.<br /> good luck and keep posting

Re: Engine overheating

Is the back-flushing easy? I think that I could do it myself. Thermostat should be a quick fix as well.
