Engine Paint - 7.4L MPI

I have my engine pulled and want to knock off the rust, get it cleaned up and paint it. Can anyone recommend a type of paint? Also I'd appreciate some tips and advise as to the best procedure to go about this. Thanks.

if its a ford 460 then it HAS to be ford blue! I have one in my tow vehicle a 78 F150, wouldnt think of painting it a different color!

its a GM 454. What kind of paint did you use? Did you use primer? What brand?

Ayuh,.... Rustoleum,.... All color, no primer...


Sand everything that can be sanded,... Wirebrush the rest,...
Be Extremely Careful with the Dust,+ Crap,.... NOTHING gets into the motor....
Tape, or Grease anything you don't want Painted...

rustoleum if you want quick and easy. if you want more glass and a harder, more solvent / oil resistant finish. use dupont nason zinc chromate primer followed by fullthane mixed to your favorite color. Rustoleum would be a whole lot cheaper... and is easy to touch up.

how meticulous does the engine need to be cleaned? I know that all the grease and oil must be gone but as far as rust goes do I need to get to bare shiny metal? Also what is the best way to remove the old paint? I think I'm going to go the Rusoleum route. Bond-O. I really like those hoses. Where can I get some of those? What type of engine is that. Are those SS elbows? How do you like them?

Ayuh,... It's reinforced Vinyl, with springs inside to prevent collaspe,...
I don't reccommend it for Saltwater...

It's an early-mid-90s 4.3LX....

Yes,.. SSteel.... They're Ok...
