engine pivot/steering tube

I have removed the tube that the engine tilts up on from my 1984 60hp johnson, and to my amazement it appears to be made of normal mild steel tubing as would be found in old gas fittings. Is this correct or should it be stainless steel and someone has bodged it?

They were produced with steel tubes. I would replace it with a stainless, definately.<br /><br />Good luck!
