today I got my motor installed back into the boat, the motor is a 305 the transom assembly is new to this boat due to some thief while it was apart. the y pipe bolted up nice but the trim hose from the gimball to the reverse lock valve is too short, and the water in is 5/8 but the motor is 3/4 any ideas? transom assembly serial is 6184254

What is the engine serial number? It may be that the OEM hose for that engine is 5/8 until the tstat housing, then belled out to 1"...

4766115 engine serial number, I went out into a driving thunder storm to get that, when I came in all soaking wet, my wife handed me the title with a smirk on her face

1977 engine. I would find/make an adapter for the hoses sizes. Get a short length (a few inches) of 1" and hook it up.

As for the gray hydraulic hose. There are 2 sizes, 23-1/2" (32-55815) and 29-1/2" (32-59842)... sounds like you might have the shorter one.
