Engine prop problem?

Got something I want to throw out there and see what you think. Hit an obstruction last week on the lake. The impact kicked the outboard completely out of the water. Since then my outboard only runs 5400 rpm (normally 5900). Boat appears to surge when running 5400 unless water is slick and boat is tracking straight. Mechanic checked it out and said the outboard is not missing a beat. He checked the prop shaft and said it appears fairly straight, but when you turn the prop by hand there is a defined wobble. Also, there are burn marks (rash) on each blade. Mechanic says prop probably unbalanced and need rebalanced, polished, and rehubed. Okay, I'll buy the balancing and polishing, but the rehubing? How can you tell when a prop needs rehubed? I could not feel it slipping, but what do I know. How much can I expect to spend to rehub, polish, and balance the prop? Any suggestions on a good prop shop (the closer to NC the better, because I bet shipping is a big expense). Thanks.

Re: Engine prop problem?

I would say the shift is ok.
Polish the prop with a file.
If you got a prop that well fit put it on
and see what it does.
Do not let them talk you in to a lot money
when it may be something easy.
You could of knock the pitch out.
P.S. Let me know.
Rex A. Hubble
Good luck. ;)
