Trying to restore my 24 ft slickcraft 1978 which had a 305 in it originally. I'm wondering if this engine could work for me as a new install (also need a drive)

I'm going to look soon so I'll have hopefully more info but it's at a local auction that ends in a few hours. Need a couple things answered.

1. Is this a 350?
2. Any telling of year range from pics.
3. Could I install this as a new install in my boat?
thanks guys for the help

its a 1987-1995 motor

could be 305, could be 350, could be a built up stroker

so it will have a 1-piece crank seal where your 1978 would be a 2-piece crank seal

if auction is more than $350, pass, as SBC's used are only worth $350 from your local pull-a-part

Ok I found a serial number on it and it is a 5.7 350 for sure. Found the stamp on the block! Looks to be completely rebuilt. Here's a picture of the model number I found

The search on the serial number states 93 350 mag but also says alpha/bravo.can it take either drive? Is this still a 1:5 gear ratio? Which would be my best option assuming the year is correct?

Ayuh,...... It's a long block motor, it don't care how ya dress it, for whatever drive ya wanta mount it too,.....

If ya dress it with the parts off yer old motor, it'll be an MC-1 motor,.....

I plan to put a brand new carb on it. And use my starter and alternator off my 305. I'm also buying a new exahaust kit. So technically it would have much on it from mine.

I just know theres quite a few diff outdrive for both alpha and bravo so I had no idea. The drive I have to acquire still so the options are open!

Ayuh,.... To make it an Alpha motor, ya need the Alpha flywheel cover, 'n coupler,.....

To make it a Bravo motor, ya need a motor driven raw water pump,.....

I'll take some more photos when I pick it up! Maybe some pics can show some signs for what drive it's currently set up for.

So just curious now. My 78 305, can I use the majority of the bolt on stuff? Will I have to change brackets bc of the year diff? Anything in particular I should inspect or have done by my mechanic prior to putting in boat? (Other then basic inspection and tune up stuff?

for the carb should I go with a STANDARD mercruiser or Rochester carb? Is this setup for 4 barrel?

That was a direct solicitation, which in violation of our postin' rules, 'n guidlelines, please read, 'n follow 'em,....
'n don't do this again,.... only through pm's,.....

In regards to alphas or bravo setups. Is one outdrive significantly better then the other? All my previous have been alphas or 3.0 so I've never owned a bravo

Take the tape off the top of the intake and we can tell you if your intake is a 2 or 4 barrel intake.

You will have to look at the intake to see if it is setup for 2 or 4 barrel. I can't tell from the small picture.

Bravo can handle more power than an Alpha. The main thing I like is the smooth shifting of the Bravo. It has a cone clutch vs the aphas clutch dogs that tend to make noise when engaging. The Bravo is buttery smooth and no noise. They cost a lot more though.

I'd get an Edelbrock Marine carb. I have a Weber that came with my 350 Mag which is basically the same device.
