I have been restoring a 1975 century Arabian v drive and am wanting to have the engine rebuilt. Condition of the motor is a mystery other than it turns over, but expecting the worst. Can someone provide a ball park cost to have it rebuilt? It is a Chrysler 440. I have 2k set aside for this part of the project and I can start setting aside some more $ if needed. Just trying to prepare. Thanks.

Too many variables for even a ball park price without more info, are you just wanting to build it back stock or do you want to soup it up some?

I'd call around and get quotes from mechanics and marinas in your area, pricing can vary greatly according to geographic location.

Agree with others and will add, 2K is not enough to have someone do a total rebuild. It would be enough to rebuild it your self. Check the engine out before you go for the rebuild. It could be it's in good shape and just needs some parts renewed.

I built a few 440s for my old 68 Chargers. Not relevant to this thread, just was fun driving what I thought were POSs back then. worth big bucks now.

Lots of dependencies, like block ok to use, heads salvageable, etc. I do think $2k is more in the range of a DIY (outsourcing maching and related) and not turnkey project.
