What are some of the areas of concern when doing a rebuild? This guy said if only 1 cylinder needs a piston put only 1 or if 1 needs bore .020 do the 1 is this right.Id think doem all bearings to but Seems as more poeple I speek to this is not the case with outboards.Hey Ive got a 130 yamaha Im wanting to rebuild could this be a do it yourself project given mech.inclined and using manual or no way. My engine has low compression on 2 cyl.If bearings check out and cylinder not wore would it be possible to only do rings. Give me 02 worth Thanks

Re: engine rebuild???

You can replace one as long as the others are in spec. There have been many many long posts about that.

The number one thing is to fix the cause of the current problem. A damaged piston is NOT the cause but rather the effect of something else gone wrong.

You cannot believe how many times a powerhead gets rebuilt / replaced and the exact same thing happens again.

Fix the cause - not just the effect!
