I am having to rebuild the engine on our boat, we have a Volvo 5.7gxi-DP.
I have subscribed to the Seloc online manual, but I cannot determine if I need to remove the drive unit to remove the engine?
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you need to remove the drive first.
You may get it apart without removing the drive, but it has to come off before you install the new engine.

I have subscribed to the Seloc online manual,

Sad to hear that. The online thing is such a piece of junk.
Here are links to the OEM manuals. Without a full model or SN of your engine, I can't really tell you which ones exactly you need. But if you post them, I will point out the correct ones.

Re: Engine Rebuild

I'll just give you a small bit of advice based my recent experience and the benefit of hindsight!

Before you go tearing into dissassembling everything (like I did). Firstly remove the drive.

Secondly, remove the engine. However, I starting removing the heads etc and started dissassembly inside the boat...til I realised that the hooks for the sling are attached to the heads. So it all had to go back together so I could lift it all out using the proper hoist points and start again outside the boat. Try to keep methodical. Just remove any ancillaries you think might snag on your trim when removing the engine. disconnect all your lines and cap them. Remove the engine (after removing drive) and do all your work on the engine outside the boat, its soooo much easier.

Oh and before anyone asks, don't attempt to use slings etc or any other method of lifting the engine out other than the proper hoist points. The engine may tip as the CoG is upset and then you will have a nice big hole in your boat!

Other than that, its the first SBC i've worked on, I'm used to aero engines with lots of 1/4" bolts etc. this is nice big stuff 9/16", 1/2', 7/16', its great!

Re: Engine Rebuild

Thanks for the tips from Don and Mariah218.
Don the engine is:

Thanks again.

Any ideas on increasing the compression, improving pistons, etc. at this point to increase the HP?
