Engine removal. How to tell if I have a drive shaft extension.

Hello and thanks in advance. I had a spark plug break off and had to end up taking it to get it tapped. Cost $310. Now I have a knock that is coming from the piston that the plug was broken on. I am almost certain it is the crank shaft bearing. Anyway I am going to pull the engine and install a new shaftr, bearings and rods. Mercruiser Alpha One and 5.7 / 350 CI Chevy engine, 1988 Wellcraft 210 Classic.
The book says to remove the stern drive if I don't have a drive shaft extension. Question is how do I know if I have the extension or not? And is there anything I should know that the manual doesn't mention?

Ayuh,... It would be Obvious, like a couple of Feet long, 'n the motor in the middle of the boat....

You're gonna find that a reman long block on a pallet will be Cheaper, 'n much Easier to get back to Boatin'....

If you have over a foot between the back of the engine and the transome you may have a driveshaft extension. But those are normally only found on outdrive boats with the engine closer to the center of the boat. if you have an engine cover at the transom, you probably don't have one.

Aaaaah. I don't have it then. Motor is right at the back of the boat. Not looking forward to this, but it must be done. This guy sold it to me a month ago and said all was good with it. Looks like he got rid of it at the right time. I'll dive into it and do it slow. Got plenty of summer left.

NEVER, NEVER, EVER, believe a seller. They only want your money, not the boat, and will tell you anything to get rid of it. Later if called on it, will say it worked great for them and they knew nothing about any problems.

I will get them, It is pouring rain right now, finally. However I bought the Clymer manual. Do I still need the oem manual?
