I removed the stern from my mercruiser, but I can't figure out how to remove the housing to remove it from the boat. My ultimate goal is to remove the engine, and I have the manual, but it doesn't mention this. Help!

Re: engine removal

i took off the upper and lower part of the stern and using a sledge hammer and saw cause there was no other way due to the ETREME corrosion. the part that connects the upper/lower part of stern to the boat is still in place. not sure what it is called.

as for the engine, i removed all the cables/wires and just need to unscrew the engine mount; But, before i yank it out i just want to clarify that there is nothing (driveshaft for example) still connected to where the stern was.

Re: engine removal

I believe you are referring to the transom assembly. You do not need to remove that. If the sledghammer (ouch) removed the shaft from the coupler then you should be able to lift the engine out. This is assuming that the manifold is no longer attached and the elbow has been removed.
