I need to pull the engine to replace the flywheel, it's a Vovlo Penta 5.7L Gsi, fuel injected..

Any words of wisdom? Special tools needed? Do I need to remove the outdrive?

Thanks!

"Do I need to remove the outdrive?"
Yes, it is only a 15/30 min job and you will need to align the motor with the drive on re-assembly.

I'm also wondering about the oil pan, I've heard they corrode over time. Can I replace this with a Chevy / GM part since the block is Chevy or do I need to get a special marine one?

Re: Engine Removal

I just finished a rebuild and my words of wisdom is to see if your local marina will allow you to use the gantry lift for a small fee. Mine used the lift to pull it and set it in the back of my truck for $25.00 I made a stand out of 2x4 and 2x6 to cradle the motor on the flywheel housing and the main mounts. Drive removal is the other must do. It is not that hard if you build a stand. Beyond that, take a lot of pictures. Take pictures of every side of the engine. You will need them to help locate any hardware you have to remove. IMG_2016.jpgIMG_2134.jpg
