Hi guys new to boats but not to automotive repair.Knowing it needed an engine, just scored this 06 tahoe 19.5 4.3 merc. I have the OD out, that was easy, have most everything disconnected from the engine,my Q is the back of the engine, not much room in there and hard to see, what do i need to remove and disconnect to get this out?i signed up online with seloc manual, what i found on the subject was useless, and crap for pics.Any help on this would be appreciated.I tried the search here but got no blow by blow instruction what i will find on this model needing removal. BTW this has a swim deck so does this have a longer or 2 piece shaft? thanks for the great forum you folk have going here. thanks gonzo

Depending you rather your engine is carbed or MPI as to which manual, if carbed you need Manual #25 If it's MPI, you need Manual 32 In either manual, section 2 gives you details for removal and installation.

Re: engine removel pros please

boats are not cars, no real manuals on engine removal on a blow by blow basis.
you simply remove the drive, remove all attachments from the hull systems to the engine and figgure out how to get it out.
its what seperates techs from engineers,.
sometimes I will spend 6 hours removing hull parts and decking just to access the engine.
then folks whine when I whack them, even under warrenty Merc nor Volvo pays for parts removal for access so the customer pays even though the actual engine part is warrenty.
problem with a boat is its a hodge-podge of vendor supplied stuff and each production run is different than the last depending on what the vendor is supplying that month.
and when your done it better look like new or the whineing begins all over again.

look at it this way... most boats are built from the inside out... wether its a 16 foot runabout or a 30+ express cruiser... all built from the inside out.

Why do it the hard way if you don't have to??

Re: engine removel pros please

You guys are spot on quick reponse and willing to help, like you find in any good forum, the engine I popped out tonight, really no big friggn deal.Although getting the engine high enough is the last trick. I used my home shop lift and ran a come along from the cross beam, the dang trailer was to wide to get it far enough back, had to run the trailer tires up on to the lift arms, feels wierd knowing if something cut loose the boats was f**ck and maybe me too.I should try a pic, dont know If a green horn here can post pics.I will try to get a shop pic up for now. Thanks all you Gurus getting me thru un -charted waters

Once you remove the engine once, the second time is exponentially easier, and you take fewer things off lol. I am down to 1.5 hrs including removing the interior.

I 2nd that on the nice GT. Almost bought a black one a couple of years ago. Definitely one my favorite cars list. Too bad about the jeep though, I am a landcruiser guy :)

first time i do anything like this on something I'm not altogether familiar with, I try to label everything and take a lot of digital pics along the way... just in case my steel trap of a memory misses something....
