Just bought a prop thru iboats and now i'm thinking it might be the wrong rotation.
I have a 23' century 5000 sun express recently purchased still in the shake out process,we've had it out once and everything went well with a few exceptions.

Motor is mcm 228 and I believe alpha 1(mr drive?drive has flat top cover, not rounded one) label on motor says ccw rotation.
The prop we bought is 14 3/4 x 15p 4 blade aluminum "
"left hand rotation".
Now I'm not sure if this is correct for my setup.when i put boat in forward gear ,turn prop to left it locks up,and vivce versa for rev.
Should i have bought a standard rotation prop?from my reading it seems this might be the case.
PLEASE some help from the pros it is supposed to arrive today and we're going out tomorrow,do not want to mess things up.

Thanks in advance
Dan

Ayuh,....

CCW is in fact, Standard Rotation......
As viewed from the Working end of the motor.....

Re: engine rotation question

so the setup I described is standard how do I verify?I spent extra money to get it here in 2 days for wed. fishing trip.
do you look at it from inside or out side of boat(i,e standing outside looking toward bow or from inside looking torward stern)?sorry that sounds kinda dumb but I am still a newbie.

Re: engine rotation question

The picture below shows standard rotation of a Mercruiser sterndrive engine and drive. The prop rotation is shown in forward gear.

It's very easy to determine your engine direction and prop direction. Start the engine and look at which direction the crankshaft and prop shaft turns when in forward gear.

Re: engine rotation question

Thanks thats what I thought...should have asked before purchase,DOH
Looks like I will be returning/repurchasing a prop and eating all kinds of shipping charges.
Thanks again,
Dan
