Engine runs but prop won't spin

I have to help my dad fix his boat this weekend & I'm not familar with boat/marine lower units. It's a 1977 Viking deck boat with a 302 Ford I/O & a OMC lower unit. While pulling a tube the RPM's redlined & the prop quit spinning. Can anyone give me advice on what to tear into first. The engine still runs fine. Look back behind the engine, is there any rubber dust? If the answer is yes then you have to replace the coupler, if no then it is most likely a spun prop hub.
