hi, i have a 1996 volvo 7.4 gi..went out yesterday and was on my way back in when i went to accelerate and the enginge bogged down at 2600 rpm....water temp was fine ..check dipstick and engine needed oil...went home put 3 qts of oil to reach the safe level on dipstick and went to test the boat in the water...engine still bogging down at 2600 rpm???getting a reading on the oil gauge of 40 should that be higher?

40 psi is normal oil preassure. That is one indication thet your oil pump is working well. <br />It sounds like your engine bogging at 2600 rpm has no connection with oil. <br />When was the last tune-up done? (spark plugs, wires... etc.) Problem may be related to fuel system as well.

i did a tune up around six months ago..changed plugs,distributor cap, spark plugs ....engine idles fine just dont know why it wont go beyond 2600 rpm..also changed high pressure fuel pump a year ago. any idea where the plug is to put a code reader on???
