Greetings,
I have a Mercruser 140 , 3 Litre, Carburetor. Year around the 1987
It starts well , runs well. I can drive it for hours with no problem until I go full throttle. Once on all the way down full throttle it will shut off as if the coil is burnt. Very quickly goes dead. Feels like electrical. very quickly.
then it will take an hour or so of fooling around and it will start again.
Can anyone tell me what it could be. It dose not look like it is gas problem because gas problem will take a little put putting before death.

It will crank over so It can not be battery, Can it be condenser, point, or Coil.
Is there a shut off switch somewhere? Dose the throttle attach to some kind of shut off switch.

Thanks a million for your help

My first boat did the same thing. It ended up being the neutral safety switch with mine. I got towed in 8 times before I figured it out.

Sia, You should repost in the I/O Forum. Those guys are experts.

Don't discount a fuel issue. If you have a partially clogged antisiphon valve, the symptoms would be the same as you have described.
