hello,im new to this site and just wanted some advice on an engine. I have a 1993 jc pontoon 24 ft it says its rated at 115 it had a mercury 115 six cylinder on it but is now bad. So heres the question a freind of mine has a 125 force 4 cylinder at a good price would this be ok? I meen it wont break the boat or sink will it? I think the engine is a little lighter than mine but still want to ask the pros. Thanks Jimmy

Re: engine size

personally, i would never buy a force. their reputation is very bad. no longer made, and many parts are not available.

Re: engine size

The weight isn't really the issue, your boat is only rated for up to 115hp. Your boat will probably handle it very well, but 1) you won't find an insurance company that will insure your boat if they know about that motor. If you get into a wreck on the lake, and they find your boat was over powered you could be in a ton more trouble. 2) I believe DNR can even give you a ticket(not sure). It won't sink your boat, but it will just make your life hard to insure. In my opinion.....I wouldnt go with it, maybe buy the motor at a great price and re-sell to buy another motor. Good luck.
