Engine skips at higher RPM's

350 Chevy engine with Volvo 270 sterndrive runs strong up through about 4500 RPM's then starts skipping. I can't get it fast enough to plane it out. Boat is 25 ft Bayliner.

4500 should be about max rpm on that engine. If you aren't planing by then, check the prop, and maybe clean the bottom.<br />If you actually meant a lot lower rpm, you may just need a tuneup.

Thanks Don. You're right, the green area on the tach ends at around 4500. I was pushing it a little tyng to get it to plane. Bad idea I guess. I have a 15x17 prop on this boat. What would you recommend for a boat this size? 25 ft cabin cruiser - approx 5,000 lbs.
