hi, i have a problem that im not sure what it could be. when i try and shift into forward gear, the engine just bogs down and dies. putting it in reverse i dont have a problem. i just get a grinding clunk when i first begin to shift into gear.

i did hear this noise shifting into both fwd and rev before this problem arrised, but i thought it was normal(thinking its not now)

are both these issues from adjusting the shift cable?

more info if you need it

i recently replaced my lower unit water pump. not sure if its related. my timing was also way up there, so i adjusted it to about 8-10 btdc.
i also replaced the points system, with an electrronic conversion kit.

anyhow i apreciate the help, thanks in advance!

You probably need a new lower shift cable.....
The 'clunk' is normal, btw.....;)

The drive must come off for a lower shift cable rpl.
You should do bellows, gimble bearing, ujoints at the same time if needed.
Replace the impeller also, while everything is off.
There are some special tools required for this, so include this in your budget if you choose to do the work yourself.
