Engine stalls in forward but not in reverse??

I've searched and searched all the forms and can not find any help. I have a VIP 1985 4.3 mercruiser mcm205 and after replacing the water pump impelller and gaskets on the outdrive i found out that if i gas it real quick in forward it dies. I can slowly give it gas to get it going but no matter what it dies at about 2200 rpms. BUT in reverse i have no problems?? I can give it gas real quick without die and also get it well pass the rpms where it dies in forward It did not do this before i removed the lower and upper unit. I also in the process replaced the water inlet hose, exhaust and u-joint bellow.

going to be working on it right now, could use a couple helpful tips on where to start.......................................
going to check my fuel filters, which i dont think it is cause it wont stall in reverse. also going to see if the throttle cables need to be adjusted......................what else???????

Ayuh,... My guess is you screwed up the shift alignment...

So i just adjusted my throttle cables and that was it BUT now it idles like crap!!!! shakes the whole darn boat!!
someone?.............................. anyone?.....................or am I the only one with this problem?

Ayuh,... My guess is you screwed up the shift alignment...

how would i have gone about doing that?

Ayuh,... Donno...
It was working Before you fixed it,+ Now it don't work....
That says you did Something Wrong where you were Fixing it...

My guess either you wacked something... or it was never working correctly in the first place.

So i just adjusted my throttle cables and that was it BUT now it idles like crap!!!! shakes the whole darn boat!!

Try taking the throttle cable off the carb comepletely and then get it hold an idle the correct way.
When was the last time the engine was fully tuned up with all filters?

If you have all new filters... and everything else is in tune with new parts and correct timing then it i'd start looking at rebuilding the carb.
