I have a 93 Force 125 outboard. It is hard to start, have to hold throttle in to get it started, and have to continue this until it gets warmed up. As soon as it is put into gear, it stalls unless you throw it into gear really fast, and go full speed. If you can get it to keep running, it will run fine at high speeds. If you go at no wake speed it stalls.

I'm going thru the same problems on my Mariner 175 right now. Check your spark. My problem was weak/no spark on three cylinders. New Switchboxes installed. Well see if that does the trick.

Re: engine stalls when put in gear

I just helped a friend with the same problem with a 30 HP Mercury. He had water in his fuel, and a bad plug too.

We drained the fuel bowl and lines a couple of times, replaced the fuel filters, installed new spark plugs, and it fixed him up.

You could also have dirty carbs.

I would check these things out first before you go the powerpack route. It's a lot cheaper, and you need to rule them out anyway.
