Engine stalls when put into gear

Just recently my Yamaha V6 150 1987 seems to cut out or stall when put into forward or reverse after running for a while.<br />Any input would be appreciated<br /><br />Also do I need any special type of grease to use on the steering cable etc.. where it connects to the motor as it is becoming harder to turn

I have the same motor in 1992 version. Can not help with the stalling problems, but I have had the steering FREEZE up twice in 5 years. (I use it in salt water). I have the hydraulic steering. Blew the seal out on the wheel box once getting it free.<br /><br />I can not find a grease fitting nut. So what I have done is take the plastic "packing nut" off & found a plastic glue that I glued a 1/4" thick piece of plastic to the side of this nut. Then I drilled & tapped it for 1/4" SAE & put a Zerk fitting in it. Before I put it all back together I ran a shotgun bore hone down the inside of the tube. Have had no problem since.
