I had a 90 hp 2000 model Merc stolen from my Sylvan 22 ft pontoon. they used bolt cutters to snap off the control cables at the engine. I have the desire to do things myself but, I lack the knowledge pertaining to how to replace the controls and how hard it would be to change engine brands. I.E. OMC brands. I would like to confer with and really appreciate a professional opinion and tech advice throughout the process. Thank You

That sucks "Bluecrest8". Sorry to hear about that. You might have better luck in the "OMC engine" section of the forum below. Every dog has his day. His is coming !!! Good luck.

I feel for you Bluecrest. Had my 60 hp 4 stroke lifted over a year ago. I guess I was lucky in the sense that they disconnected everything instead of cutting. As to repairing/ replacing, wouldn't your insurance look after it?

Sorry about your engine, I have no use for a thief myself.

Every brand of engine has its own controls, Johnson and Evinrude are the same control, so if you change brands you just have to get thier controls and they are pretty easy to change, routing the cables would probably be the hardest thing to do, then getting them adjusted woudl be next but all things you should be able to do with a little advice from the board.

If you get a new engine the dealer may need to install it themselves for the sake of the warranty, for what it's worth. But if you're looking at a used replacement then you'd need the new motor's remote control and cabling. You want to stay within the HP (weight) restrictions on the boat's design--it should be on the capacity sticker.
