Problem pop up this year on my 88 Ceira, 5.7 L OMC Cobra. Underway and triming the engine causes the engine to stumble. Batteries have good charge. Almost seems line the trim is effecting the ESA Anybody else have a similar problem?

Welcome to iboats!

You may be on the right track with the ESA. Does the stumbling only occur while the trim pump is running?

Only while the trim switch is active. Haven't really noticed it at launching or retriving and initial lowering or raise to pull the boat out. Just underway at speed.

Start by checking the connections inside the control box.

Re: Engine stumble underway with trim/tilt adjustment

Hello ..... I've got the same thing happening on my 1987 4.3L OMC . It seems to be very common . I have read in lots of places that there is a service bulletin out on this problem but have never been able to actually find any OMC service bulletins online .The basic issue problem comes down to a voltage drop at the coil large enough to cause a misfire when the trim motor is activated at higher RPM's . If you search around this forum you will see many references to this problem . The best answer I have seen was posted a few years back on this forum . I have not tried this myself but I will definitely give it a shot this weekend. If you find out any additional info please post . Here is a link to the question answered a few years back .... hope it works .....
