Buying a motorless 2005 17ft Palm Beach Center console. It was rigged according to owner for a Johnson/Evinrude. He said it had something a little over a 100 hp on it (not sure, but was 100-125hp range). I have a 2000 48 SPL with trim and tilt (well not purchased yet). Will that interchange on controls and control box wiring? If it won't easily work -- I don't want to buy the boat

Just look at the plug at the end of the wiring. The shifter/throttle will work but you need to see if the plugs are the same. It will be under-powered and possible not plane out but a 48 special will move the boat.

Got it. So the engine plug matching the control box is the issue. Not done this before as you can tell.

IMO a 48 HP on a 17 foot boat will be so underpowered you'll curse it every time you take it out.

By any chance do you know how much power that particular hull is rated for?

Not sure on rating. Buying to make a little money on. Thought a 50 would be fine since we've used them on 20 ft pontoons and they will run 20 mph.
