I want to swap my dead Chevy 350 out and install a Ford 302 or 351. I have a 1989 alpha 1 drive. Can this be done? If so what do I need to do it.

Re: Engine Swap

It is my understanding that Ford has been out of the Marine Engine business for quite a while. Even if you already have a Ford 302 or 351, it is going to need the marine specific externals. It would be far easier and cheaper to put in another 350 and keep swap the externals onto the new Chevy engine.

I too am partial to ford, on the pavement, but if I'm not mistaken, you'll need everything between the flywheel and the drive to convert. Even if you don't, it's far easier to stay GM, plus the parts will be easier to obtain too. Good luck

you'll also need all the parts behind the flywheel like the coupler and bellhsg plate.

You basically need a Ford powered Mercruiser boat that's trashed but has a running engine, then swap everything to your boat.

Re: Engine Swap

plain and simple, you need everything. manifilds, engine mounts, coupler, starter, oil pan and every tin cover, fuel pumps etc etc etc. Might as well get a new drive, correction, a new old boat with the Ford in it. No new new boats with Fords. If you just get a short block Chevy might be a day or two swap for less than $1500.
