Hello all..... picked up a 71 boat with an Mercruiser 888 out drive. The 302 engine is missing only the heads and intake. Everything else is present. I also just picked up a good running COMPLETE OMC 302 engine. What do I have to swap from the Merc to the OMC to get it on the water again ?

Re: Engine Swap

Which one are you trying to get running? If I were you, and you wanted one 302 setup to be operational, I'd just take the OMC motor and put all of the Merc parts on it. Should be pretty simple swap. The engines are identical, so it's just a matter of swapping the exhaust manifolds and other accessories. I wouldn't bother pulling heads off of the OMC motor to swap over as it would just be easier to swap the complete engine over.

Ya.... Putting the OMC motor in it. The Merc is done as the block is too far gone to do anything with in my opinion. Too much rust in the cylinders. Figured I'd have to swap the exhaust manifolds..... and what else ?
