I am new to this forum and looking for some swap information. After searching, I cannot come up with the info I am looking for. I have a 1982 Sea Sprite open bow with a OMC 120hp GM 4 cyl. I am trying to get more power and it was suggested to replace the 4cyl with a 4.3l V-6. I do like this idea and am under the impression that it will bolt up to the intermediate housing. I know exhaust will be different but what else will I have to change? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to iboats. :)

First thing is to look to see if the boat is built to support the motor. They mount to the stringers straddling the motor inside the bottom of the hull. Not all boats made for 4 cylinder motors will have that. If the support isn't there, it's not an option.

You'd need a complete engine. About the only thing you'd be able to transfer from your 4 is the alternator. You'd need room under the doghouse, but those can be remade. You'd also need sundry brackets and such from an old v-6 OMC. Then there's exhaust manifolds. It's getting awfully expensive for a 1982 boat with an impossible-to-sell stringer drive. Sell it and buy one with a 4.3. :)

Your current drive will not handle a V-6. The gear ratio's are way off in the upper and lower unit. You would have to replace it with an 800 V6 drive.

NOT worth it.
