HI,

I have twin 318s and when the engines are cold, they start right up. If they are warmed up all day, every time I start the boat, it takes about 10 sec to start each engine.

Question: Why would the engines crank longer when they are warmed up?

thanks,
Lou

Couple of reasons.

The engines could be a bit tired.

Your fuel could be boiling in the carbs/lines. Vaporlock.

Had the same problem last year. Turned out the exhaust manifolds and risers were doing it. It would fire up perfect when cold, but once it was running, the water was running back into the cylinders and wetting out the plugs. Examining your plugs could tell you if thats happening. I've been told two things to check for, rust or excessively clean/polished look. I'm not sure which is right, both seem feasible to me, but I'm sure someone knows the real answer. Or, If its too hot so you can't keep your hand on the manifold/riser while running, that means that there could be a build up of rust. Just one more possibility to add to the equation :)
