First, thanks for replying to my last questions.
And Yes I have another....

I have 2 cables one for the gear box and one for the fuel. The handle has a trim button and a neutral position when you pull the handle to the center of the boat. Here is the problem. It wont go into nutrual and when I push the throttle forward the cable will not return to its neutral position or reverse position. I've taken the panel off and removed the cable form the carb and I can manually move the cable back and forth with hardly any effort but the throttle handle doesnt move and as soon as I put the panel back on the boat and try to move the throttle it seems to be stuck. I dont know what year the contols are but the boat was made in 87. What normally fails on the contols and can I repair this thing? Would greasing it help?

Re: Engine throttle Controls

It sounds like maybe something is binding up when the cover goes back on. Also, make sure your cutout/interrupter switch is working or you'll be stretching the shift cable.

Re: Engine throttle Controls

Most of the popular types have 3 toothed wheel which to engage the cables. One tooth usually snaps off - nearly always the one which engages reverse. You can't buy replacements but your local fitter and turner should be able to make one. They are about as round as a 20c piece and probably 1/2" thick. Pull the controller apart and you'll see what I mean.
