Hi,
1988 OMC 3.0L with Cobra outdrive.
In short: Which wires come out of cable connector in line with the feed from the Assist Solenoid?
Long expalnation, if you have the time:
If I touch either of the 2 battery grounds to the block, like the groudning point, It sparks.
Well, there shouldn't be power to block, if I am correct, which indicates that there is a short.
The short is up in the Instrument Cable area. I'll explain how I diagnosed this.
If I disconnect the Instrument Cable connector, the short on the block goes away.
The power source to the short is the Pink/white wire that connects to the Assist Solenoid, coming from the Starter (where the Battery connects).
If I disconnect this wire, there is no spark to ground. (The wiring diagram depicts the Pink/white wire as Purple/Red.)
Summary:
Pink/white wire is power source to block, through a short up in the Instrument cable.
Which wires come out of cable connector in line with the feed from the Assist Solenoid?
The reason I am diagnosing this is that the Shift Interuptor does not seem to be working. I think a short might be affecting it.
Brand new ESA, Interupptor and Overshift module.
The boat currently drives and shifts fine, but it is best to give it a couple seconds between forward and reverse. It would be nice for docking to not have this delay.
Thanks,
Chopperdog
