Engine Troubles?

(In Reference to a 93', 9.9 HP Oil Injected Suzuki)

I took my recently bought motor for a spin. I noticed when I accelerated to it's max, it ran maxed for 3 or 4 secs and came down a speed a notch while I was still holding the handle full throttle. This seemed to happen every time I would slow down and then speed up, meaning it did it every single time I would do a full acceleration. My question, could there be something wrong with the engine?....I have an older 85' 7.5 HP Evinrude and it seemed to move faster than my newer motor. This leads me to believe the engine might require some maintenance.

To note: The engine is in like new condition and before I purchased had only been run 5 to 6 times. The engine is extremely quite and doesn't putter, basically runs as if it's in perfect condition.

Should I get a maintenance check on the motor?

Thank You,

Zoo

Zoo,
Check the fuel tank vent for obstructions. Make sure your primer bulb is staying firm. When it dies down, have someone squeeze the bulb and see if the speed increases. Could be bulb, air leak in fittings at the engine or tank, or any of the above.

Re: Engine Troubles?

Rick,

I went to the tank today and noticed the air adjustment nozzled was closed shut. Meaning the engine ran the whole time with it shut. As I recall it should be open to receive some air, right? I'm figuring with it full throttle it wanted more fuel and with that nozzle shut it couldn't get enough in the engine. Am I right by saying that?

If so, would that result alow the engine to top out it's speed, then bring it down an level, yet be consistant at that level? You follow me?

I ask, because the engine doesn't show any sign of putter or thirst for fuel, it looks and signs like it runs perfect, yet it dies down a little after it reaches it's highest potential speed.

Thank You

Zoo

One more thing,

would the sparks plugs have anything to do with my engine's circumstance. Should I get them changed?

Zoo

Zoo,

Your fuel tank vent being closed will cause the engine to do exactly what you described. No fuel-no power.
