I have a 91 evinrude VE150GLEIS on a stratos f/s that I just bought a couple of months ago. The guy I bought it from said it sat for about 2 years before he sold it. He had the carbs cleaned and the compression checked, but that is all that I am aware of. My question is, since I am new to boats and motors...how often should the plugs be changed on this motor? Also, if I take it somewhere for a "tune-up", what does that include other than plugs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Engine tuneup

I'd replace the plugs every season. You can pull the existing plugs and keep them onboard as spares. They're only a few bucks a piece and can benefit from being changed. Outboards can have timing issues like other motors so it's a good thing to have that checked.

A tune up should likely include the timing, carb adjustments, compression checks, and spark checks. Should also include basic visual checks to make sure there are no burned or melted wires and such. Should also check fuel filters and such.
