Engine wants to stall intermittently

I bought a 25hp 1974 Johnson and took it out yesterday for the first time. It mostly ran great but a number of times it would suddenly and very quickly start to stall and a few times it did. It happened at higher rpm and sometimes when I was increasing from idle to lower rpm's. I know I could check the fuel pump volume but it is so intermittent I think It will test okay even with the problem. I didn't have the correct fuel mixture. I ran 32:1 and found out it should have been 50:1. I don't think that would be it but don't really know. Is there some other things I can check or should I just wait for something to finally break?

kdc2000,
You may have a faulty ignition or kill switch.Kill switch on tiller(type) motor, ignition switch on (remote) controls.Could be a short somewhere with the ignition.Wiring OK?

Lotsa oil, may have fouled the plugs. It don't take much on them.
How old is the fuel?
You are correct in suspecting the fuel pump, along with all other components in the fuel system, like the inline filter, anti syphon valve, air leak or loose fitting of the fuel hose, carb jets clogged, or water/trash in the gas tank.
But it does sound like a fuel starvation problem ,as it surfaces at throttle changes, and maybee jumping wakes?
.
